Dear Colleagues:
While research occupies the vast majority of the program at AOM, executive education is an important way that we can impact management practice and thus sharing and discussing best practice in executive education with interested colleagues can be very beneficial. As a result, you are warmly welcomed to attend a PDW session at AOM this Saturday focusing on "How to design executive education programs where learnings can be easily applied in firms." Please find more information about the session below. –Carl Fey

A key criticism of many executive education programs is that while they are entertaining and do a good job of teaching content, often when participants return to their firms little of what they have been taught gets used in their firms and thus the executive education programs fail to make the much impact on client firms. This session will explore how we can overcome this problem and design and execute executive education programs which make a larger impact by teaching content in ways that it can be readily applied in firms and in some cases even help firms with this implementation. The session will have three parts: 1) We will discuss how to design executive education programs to meet the above goal introducing a variety of methodologies that can be used to facilitate this. We will not just talk about, but demonstrate two teaching methods which will help us ensure that program learnings are applied in client firms; 2) We will demonstrate, involving participants, how a sample assessment instrument can be used to ensure program learnings are applied in a client firm and we will show how assessment instruments should be modified for different countries to take cultural differences into account; and 3) We will show how to design effective top management team workshops which can be used as part of executive education programs to help drive implementation.
