*apologies for cross-postings*
Dear colleagues,
Laura den Dulk and I are looking to organize a symposium on Cross-national work-life research for the upcoming Work and Family Researchers Network conference in New York, June 2014.
We are looking for papers filling some of the gaps that we have identified in our recent special issue editorial
(http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S026323731300073X).
And in particular:
1. Research using newer frameworks to explain similarities and differences:
· Under-studied cultural dimensions such as humane orientation and performance orientation (House, et al., 2004), specificity/diffusion (Trompenaars & Hampden-Turner, 1998), the World Values Survey's importance of work measure
· Welfare state typologies, the capabilities and agency approach or sense of entitlement to work-life support (please see our editorial for more details)
· Combinations of cultural and institutional variables, in particular to help explain within-country variations
· Cultural anthropology approaches focusing on rich emic analysis.
2. Research:
· Using direct measurements of institutional and economic pressures and/or organizational level data over time
· Capturing national context as dynamic, rather than static
· Capturing national context as heterogeneous rather than homogeneous
· Showing how national context shapes the very definition of work-life and the production of knowledge by scholars.
If you are working in these areas, please contact us as soon as possible before Sept 5.
