Geography and Strategic Management: Innovation and Firm Location Decisions
Session Type: Presenter Symposium
Location: Sheraton – Fountain view Room
Scheduled: August 12 (Monday) 2024, 15:00 PM – 16:30 PM (CT)

Geography plays an important role in firms' decision-making and consequent performance. Firms choose geographic locations for a variety of reasons, such as expanding to new markets, accessing new resources-including knowledge and human capital-or benefiting from positive agglomeration spillovers. Yet, understanding the relationship between firm strategy and geography is challenging, given variations in competition levels, regulatory intensity, and other institutional factors across different geographic markets and over time. The objective of this symposium is to bring together a diverse set of papers and scholars interested in the intersection of geography and strategy. The symposium highlights four papers related to how geography shapes firm knowledge flows and innovation, as well as firm location choices.
