Dear IM Division Members, Welcome to the International Management Division.
I am honored and delighted to serve as Division Chair this year and to work with you and with the other members of the Executive Committee (Immediate-Past Division Chair Sea-Jin Chang, Division Chair Elect Jay Anand, Division Program Chair Aya Chacar, and Division PDW Chair Elizabeth Rose) to make the division a valuable source of relationships and information.
We are a very large division, with over 2700 members. The Division works thanks to the contributions of people who volunteer their enthusiasm, effort and time to make it better. This includes not only the 60 people who serve on the Division’s committees, but also the hundreds more who serve as organizers, chairs, coordinators, reviewers, presenters, etc. Please consider becoming more involved in the Division and promote it among your friends and colleagues.
I want to thank everyone for contributing to the success of the 2015 Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management we held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The quality of the papers and panels presented, PDWs, and reviews are evidence of your commitment to advancing the goals of the Division and Academy. I also want to thank Jay Anand and Aya Chacar for organizing excellent academic and PDW programs, to the committees for helping with the programs by organizing social events, promoting the division, communicating with members, determining award winners, and creating sessions, among many things, and to our sponsors for supporting our numerous awards: PWC Strategy& Eminent Scholar Award; IM Division D’Amore-McKim School of Business, Northeastern University Award for the Best Dissertation in International Management; IM Division CEIBS Best Paper Award; IM Division Fundação Dom Cabral Best Paper in Strategy / IB Theory Award; IM Division GWU-CIBER Best Paper on Emerging Markets; IM Division Willamette University, Atkinson Graduate School of Management Best Paper in International Ethics, Social Responsibility, and/or Sustainability; IM Division Gustavson School of Business Award for the Best Qualitative Paper in International Business; IM Division CGIO Best Paper in International Corporate Governance; and the Douglas Nigh Award. My congratulations to the winners of these awards as well as to the winners of the IM Division Outstanding Educator Award, IM Division Outstanding Service to the Global Community Award, and IM Division Best Paper in OB / HRM / OT.
Every five years, the Academy of Management analyzes a few of the divisions. This year is our turn. Please send us your constructive feedback so that we can provide you with more value added not only at the Annual Meeting, but also throughout the year.
In preparation for the 2016 Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management in Anaheim, California, please work with Elizabeth Rose and Aya Chacar to create outstanding PDW and academic programs. Consider not only submitting your best work to the Division, but also organizing innovative professional development workshops, and coordinating insightful panels. The theme of the 2016 Annual Meeting is “Making Organizations Meaningful”. Let’s work together to make the Division and Academy “walk the talk”.
